Apple Strudel

Ingredients

Dough:

7 Tbsp. oil
1 cup warm water
2 cups of margarine, melted

Filling
:
1/2 cup margarine
3 Tbsp. bread crumbs
3/4 cup walnuts, chopped
21/4 lbs. apples, peeled and diced
2 Tbsp. cinnamon
1/2 cup sugar
1/2 cup raisins

Preparation:

Mix oil and 6 Tbsp. warm water.

Put flour in heated bowl, making a well in the center.

Pour in oil/water mixture & mix well.

Then make a ball and place it back into heated bowl.

Cover with towel and let stand for at least 30 minutes.

Meanwhile, prepare filling. Melt butter in large frying pan.

Add bread crumbs carefully and saute until lightly brown.

Then pour mixture into large bowl, adding nuts, apples, cinnamon, sugar and raisins. Set aside.

Stretching the dough:

Place large, clean table and dust lightly flour. Divide the dough in half.

Roll out first half, without ripping it, in order to make a rectangle

Brush dough with warm oil. With knuckles dusted with flour, place hands under dough and slowly draw it away from you, thereby stretching dough. Be sure dough thins evenly. Cut off thick ends and brush dough with melted butter.

Filling and Rolling:

Put 1/2 of filling in the middle of dough, leaving space at free edges. Slowly fold dough over filling. Lift end of towel and roll strudel slowly onto greased baking tray. Brush with melted butter. Repeat same procedure with second half of dough.

Baking:

Place into pre-heated 250-degree oven and let bake for 10 minutes. Then lower heat to 200-degrees and continue baking for 30 minutes more, or until strudel is golden brown.
